Good evening, my people, my people! How’s your weekend going over there? I am glad to be here with you this evening on “The Business in You” Daily tonic.
Today, I want to let you know once more that the agricultural sector alone has the potential to employ the over 40 million youths who are unemployed and busy looking for paid jobs?
One funny thing about this global truth is that in Nigeria, we take farming or agriculture to be a business meant for the poor and rural people. On the contrary, some of the richest people in Israel, China, USA, etc are farmers. Even here in Nigeria, we’ve got very rich but silent farmers.
Sincerely, I want to reiterate that farming is a great alternative for all those who are yet without jobs, not just because it will keep them busy but because it has the potential to make them wealthier than their counterparts in paid employments.
Cassava as a crop provides jobs in over 20 value chains, ranging from production, input supplies, warehousing, transportation, processing into various forms, marketing, etc.
As I speak with you, several millionaires have arisen from the processing of cassava into flour. This value chain alone is a multi million naira business as it provides the best storage option for cassava since it can last for years. I am sure you know that cassava flour now constitutes a good percentage of flour used for the making of confectioneries like cake, bread, chin chin, Indomie, etc.
Cassava flour is also in high demand because it’s an alternative source of starch for diabetic and high BP patients.
My dear, there’s so much to talk about this once neglected crop called cassava. What about the yellow cassava, which is a potent source of vitamin A, for those in need of the important nutrient?
